Your local travel clinic

India and the wider South Asia region, from the cities of Delhi and Mumbai to Nepal's trekking routes and the beaches of Sri Lanka, are trips we prepare a lot of travellers for at our Standish clinic. Many people are visiting friends and relatives, which can carry a different risk profile from a short tourist stay, and we take that into account. This page is a general destination profile, and your exact vaccine plan is always tailored to you in a consultation.

Usually recommended for India and South Asia
Usually recommended for India and South Asia: hepatitis A, typhoid and tetanus. Considered for longer or rural trips: hepatitis B, rabies, Japanese encephalitis and cholera. Antimalarial tablets are advised for some areas. All travel vaccines are prescription-only and tailored to you in your consultation.
This is a guide, not a fixed package. Your pharmacist tailors it to you in consultation, and you only pay for the vaccines you actually need.

Travel vaccines usually recommended for India and South Asia

Most travellers to India and South Asia are advised to be up to date with hepatitis A, typhoid and tetanus. These reflect the food and water risks common across the region, and typhoid in particular is often recommended for South Asia. Because travel vaccines are prescription-only medicines, our pharmacist confirms which ones suit you in your consultation rather than selling a fixed package.

Vaccines considered for longer or rural trips

For longer stays, rural travel, trekking or people visiting friends and relatives, our pharmacist may also discuss hepatitis B, rabies, Japanese encephalitis and cholera. Rabies is a genuine consideration in the region. Pre-exposure vaccination makes treatment after a bite simpler and reduces the number of injections needed, but it does not remove the need to wash the wound and seek medical care straight away if you are bitten or scratched.

Malaria and antimalarial tablets

Malaria risk in South Asia varies by area, altitude and season. Where tablets are appropriate, our pharmacist will discuss antimalarial tablets alongside bite-avoidance measures such as repellent, suitable clothing and a net. High-altitude trekking areas may carry little or no malaria risk, and we tailor advice to your route.

Honest pricing, no bundles

We show clear per-vaccine pricing and our travel vaccines are often cheaper than Boots or Superdrug. We do not sell fixed destination packages or bundle discounts. You pay only for the vaccines you need, with the exact cost confirmed at your consultation. Indicative prices are on our pricing page.

When to book

Try to book a few weeks ahead, as some vaccines need more than one dose or work best in good time. If you are travelling sooner, it is still worth booking, and same-week appointments are usually available at our Standish clinic with no GP referral needed.
